Simulation Modeling and Analysis Using Flexsim
Course Objective:
The intent of the workshop is to provide the participants with the capability to use simulation to analyze and improve organizational performance. The workshop will be hands-on, practical, and project focused. Participants will learn how to use FlexSim, a state-of-the-art simulation modeling environment, to address problems in their organization. During the workshop, participants are expected to develop a real, albeit simple, model, conduct the appropriate analysis, and present their findings to the class. The workshop is structured so that there is significant time for the participants to interact on a one-on-one basis with MSU modeling experts to facilitate the development of real
models.
Course Content:
- Executive summary of simulation modeling and analysis (SMA) addressing such issues as: What is SMA? How can SMA improve organizational performance? Demonstration of example Flexsim applications. What is involved in a SMA project? What is the process? What is required for a successful simulation project?
- Overview of FlexSim modeling environment and interface
- Basic FlexSim modeling constructs
- Basic model building in FlexSim
- Basic coding (Flexscript/C++, model tree)
- Input data issues (parameter and distribution estimating)
- FlexSim constructs: labels, global tables
- Importing and exporting data with MS Excel
- FlexSim constructs: downtime, time tables
- Analysis (generating and interpreting output in FlexSim, using the Experimenter, simple comparisons of alternatives, model validation and verification)
- Advanced topics in FlexSim (user commands, user libraries, custom task sequences)
- Other topics generated by the participants
