MMA 64th Annual Convention: Cybersecurity

MMA’s annual convention, held at the Beau Rivage Resort in Biloxi, May 25-27, was a great success with 367 people in attendance! This year marked the 64th convention MMA has held.

Wednesday evening, a dinner reception was held with entertainment provided by Marcel Lanoux, DJ & Emcee. Nine exhibitors participated in MMA’s tablescape contest by decorating a table for the reception. The winner of the contest was Hinds Community College/Eagle Ridge Conference Center, whose centerpiece was composed of elaborately carved fruit.

Thursday morning’s general session, presided by MMA Chairman Mike Thomas, featured two speakers. G.B. Cazes, Vice President of Cyber Innovation Center, spoke about Cybersecurity and ways businesses can protect themselves from cybertheft. Stephen Hayes, Fox News contributor and writer for The Weekly Standard, spoke in the afternoon session about his view of the 2016 elections. Before the conclusion of Thursday’s session, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves and Speaker Philip Gunn addressed attendees. Thursday afternoon, activities included a fishing tournament, golf tournament, schooners trip, and museum tour/pottery class. A reception that evening was held in the exhibit hall before attendees set out for dinner.

Friday morning, the session began with opening remarks from MMA President & CEO Jay C. Moon and MMA Chairman Mike Thomas.  Mr. Moon presented MMA Group Insurance Trust Director Don Bruce with an award for his 40 years at MMA. Convention then concluded with featured keynote speaker Dr. David Altig, Executive Vice President and Research Director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.

Thank you sponsors, exhibitors, and attendees for making this year’s convention a success! Be sure to mark your calendar for next year’s convention to be held at the Hilton in Jackson, June 1-2, 2017.
