INNOVATEMEP MISSISSIPPI CENTER AT MISSISSIPPI POLYMER INSTITUTE’S RAPID PROTOTYPING SERVICE HELPS ZAVATION QUICKLY DEVELOP PRODUCTS
About
Zavation, founded in 2010, is a medical device company that designs, develops, manufactures and distributes medical devices that provide comprehensive medical solutions to improve and enhance quality of life for patients around the world located in Brandon, MS and employs approximately 12 people.
The Challenge
When Zavation needed expert guidance and production of a new medical device, the company looked no further than the InnovateMEP Center at Mississippi Polymer Institute (MPI). Recently, Zavation found itself with just 24 hours to have a small surgical implant model produced. The company went to the InnovateMEP Center at MPI to take advantage of the institute’s timely 3D printing services.
MEP Center's Role
The process moved very quickly; Zavation emailed its 3D design file over to the InnovateMEP Center at MPI. InnovateMEP Center at MPI produced a quote for the print of the model, and the prototype was delivered the next day back to Zavation.
Results
Zavation was able to quickly evaluate its designs and introduce a product to market, with the help of the InnovateMEP Center at MPI’s 3D printing services. This introduction resulted in a total market and equipment impact of $107,500. InnovateMEP Center at MPI’s service and partnership with Zavation is critical to ensuring that the company is able to quickly respond to its customers’ needs.
“The incredible response times and quality models from InnovateMEP Center at MPI have allowed us to get our concepts in hand for design review, and more critically to share those designs with our customers,” said Lawrence Walker, engineering manager at Zavation. “This kind of responsiveness has helped us build critical relationships with our customers.”
