Governor Reeves Declares Friday, October 4 “Manufacturing Day in Mississippi”

JACKSON – In a signed proclamation, Governor Tate Reeves declared today “Manufacturing Day in Mississippi”. Manufacturing Day is celebrated nationally by the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM).

Nine Manufacturing Day events are registered in Mississippi on the MFG Day website. Two were last week, and four others are happening in the next two weeks.

  • September 26 - PACCAR Engine Company - Columbus
  •   September 30 - Pearl River Community College - Hattiesburg
  •   October 4 - Munn Enterprises - Hattiesburg
  •   October 4 - BlueScope Coated Products - Byram
  •   October 4 - Nissan (MMA-Sponsored) - Canton
  •   October 7 - The Communiversity, East Mississippi Community College - Columbus
  •   October 10 - Westlake Pipe & Fittings - Booneville
  •   October 16 - Ashley Furniture Industries - Ecru
  •   October 17 - Johnson Controls - Hattiesburg

“Manufacturing Day is a fantastic opportunity for our state's manufacturers to give their communities a first-hand look at available careers to our current and future workforce,” said MMA President & CEO John McKay. "We are thrilled to see so many different companies open their doors for Manufacturing Day in Mississippi, and we hope these experiences have a lasting impact on our young people."

According to a study by The Manufacturing Institute and Deloitte, 2.1 million U.S. manufacturing jobs could go unfilled by 2030, meaning many career opportunities are available to Mississippians. Careers in this industry require a high school diploma, associate's degree, or a bachelor's degree. Here is the annual mean wage for common positions in Mississippi:

  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering: $65,300
  • Industrial Engineers: $91,800
  • Production, Planning, and Expediting Clerks: $52,500
  • Structural Metal Fabricators and Fitters: $48,400
  • Multiple Machine Tool Setters, Operators, and Tenders, Metal and Plastic: $39,900
  • Welders, Cutters, Solderers, and Brazers: $50,900
