Currently, TMMMS offers five different workforce training programs with community partners to help close the skills gap in North Mississippi.

Situation/Challenge:

Like many companies, Toyota faces challenges in acquiring and retaining skilled resources, such as maintenance personnel. Over the last few years, in addition to utilizing ICC's industrial maintenance skills training program, Toyota collaborated with ICC to initiate its Production to Skills (P2S) program. This program was designed to build a pipeline of qualified, skilled workers to meet operational efficiency and grow a pool of multi-talented, maintenance members. The program provides an opportunity for qualified production team members to advance to entry level maintenance positions, thereby addressing local hiring difficulties.

Solution/MEP’s Role:

ICC delivers a 14-week Industrial Maintenance Technician training program tailored to the needs of P2S program. This program incorporates a blend of classroom instruction and hands-on laboratory exercises, building up participants with mechanical and electrical skills related to a skilled maintenance team member position.

Results:

Toyota Mississippi has seen an increase in the skill set and knowledge base of its workforce through its partnership with ICC and initiatives like P2S. In addition to increasing operational efficiency, Toyota has realized significant cost savings as it relates to workforce training and development.
