Dave has worked in the coal industry since 1983 when he began working as an engineering intern at NAC’s Falkirk Mining Company in North Dakota. After graduating from North Dakota State University (NDSU) in Construction Engineering, he accepted a job with Boeing Commercial Aircraft where he worked for 2 years. He returned to the Falkirk Mine in 1990. After working in ND for eight years, Dave and his family moved to south Texas to work at NAC’s San Miguel Mine. In 2000 he accepted a transfer to east Texas to work at the NAC’s Sabine mine as a Maintenance manager and later was promoted to Operations manager. In 2008, Dave earned an Executive MBA from the University of Texas – Dallas. In February of 2010, Dave moved to Mississippi to work at NAC’s, Mississippi Lignite Mining Company as the Operations manager. Later that year, he was promoted to General Manager & President.

Dave is passionate about workplace safety, environmental compliance, and the impact positive leadership can have on individuals, organizations and regions. MLMC consistently achieves the status of one of the safest mining operations in the nation. MLMC has worked over 2 years without a reportable personal injury and has worked since 2013 without a single Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) safety citation. MLMC has received three awards from the US Office of Surface Mining (OSM) for excellence in mining reclamation. Since it began operations in 1998, MLMC has supported nearly 50 individual co-op students from MSU and funded 103 semesters of co-op study.
Dave and his wife Nancy have three grown sons, two daughters-in-law and two+ grandchildren. They are active at the United Methodist Church in Starkville. They enjoy time at the lake, golfing and travel. Appointed to the MMA Board of Directors At-Large in June 2018. (Term expires September 2020)
